Zoya has brought back their Matte Velvet collection again, but this time.. the full original collection!  Last year we saw a few old favorites return and people were bummed that Harlow wasn’t included.  Well, if you’ve been waiting for it, now’s your chance.

The Matte Velvet collection consists of 6 lush shades perfect for Fall.  Zoya actually has 9 mattes total (Phoebe, Mitzi and Lolly were a different release and not part of the originals) that they’ve created.  Maybe one day we’ll see the rerelease of the Mod Mattes as well.

Let’s revisit the Matte Velvets now!  I will be showing them in their matte finish (as intended) but also with top coat.

Posh was the first Matte Velvet I ever owned!  Posh is a medium cool-toned wine red with metallic red shimmer and a velvety matte finish.  I used 2 coats for these photos.

Zoya Mattevelvet Nail Polish, Amal

Savita is quite possibly my favorite of the 6 shades.  Savita is a bold, vibrant medium purple with strong red and gold shimmer with a velvety finish.  I used 2 coats for these photos.

Dovima is probably my most used from the Matte Velvet collection!  Dovima is a smoky charcoal-black with strong silver shimmer and a velvety finish.  I used 2 coats for these photos.

Harlow is the Matte Velvet that I have seen some ladies pay top dollar for since it was discontinued a couple years ago.  I also know a few who were holding out hope that it would one day reappear.

Never Enough Nails: New Zoya Winter/holiday Mattevelvet Swatches!!

Harlow is a rich, saturated rose plum packed with sparkling metallic shimmer in a velvety finish.  I used 2 coats for these photos.

I am so thrilled Zoya brought these back!  Such beautiful Fall shades and I love a matte finish.. but the added shimmer in each one, especially with top coat just puts them over the edge!  No application issues, and I only had to use 2 coats for each shade.

Zoya Nail Polish Mattevelvet Collection

I work full time as a Patient Coordinator in a pain management medical office during the day and as a beauty blogger at night.I doubt you can take any more buildup over the new Matte Velvet collection from Zoya so I’m happy to be able to FINALLY share the goods with you. As I’ve previously stated, Matte Velvet is Zoya’s entry in the emerging matte nail polish trend. The lineup includes three shimmering shades in a unique matte finish formula. Check them out after the jump!

Right off the bat, I was already loving these polishes WAY more than the OPI Mattes (La Paz being the lone exception) due to the shimmer. It keeps the polish from looking like flat wall paint which for me is a good thing. And unlike slapping a layer of matte top coat on a shimmery polish (see below) this polish is truly matte and non-reflective.

We need to discuss for the formula for a sec before jumping into the swatches. Like the OPI Mattes these polish dry SUPER FAST so make haste when applying. They’re also pretty thick and can EASILY go on uneven. In fact, I had to redo a couple nails because I wasn’t quick or accurate enough. Though the bonus of them drying so fast is the lack of wait time. You can be out the door in 5 minutes with these polishes.

Again, we’re faced with the no base coat rule which I really don’t understand. As you remember from my experiment with the OPI Mattes the only decent wear was while using a base coat. If anyone with chemistry knowledge can riddle me why this is the recommendation, I know we’d ALL appreciate it. (CHECK UPDATE BELOW)

Loredana is a chalky charcoal shimmer matte (sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it?) that reminds me of cement. It was the thickest and most difficult to apply of the three and also my least fave. Not like a thumbs down least favorite but more like non-essential to my life.

When I first slapped it on last Friday I was all, “Rut-roh! Me thinks I see a Man Glaze dupe. Drama!!” but it’s clearly not. Fuggen Ugly is more gray with a subtle satin sheen while Loredana has a cooler, blue undertone that is completely flat. If I’m being honest, even though I hate the brand name (Man Glaze, really? Double entendre much?), I prefer the formula.

Dovima is a black shimmer that reminds me of honed black granite. It’s another shade that leans a little cool instead of being a true black. I imagine due to the silver shimmer.

To give you an idea of how these compare to a traditional polish with a matte top coat, I paired Dovima with CND Hyde In The Dark topped with Nubar V for Men Matte Finish Nail Protector (that’s a mouthful!). The matte top coat not only lightened the look of Hyde but it also left a satin finish instead of a true matte.

In regards to the wear, I threw on Loredana last Friday and after taking a shower on Saturday it was so badly chipped I had to take it off before being seen in public. It wasn’t like cool chipping (not that I really think that exists). It was more like you’re-too-lazy-go-home-and-make-love-to-your-polish-remover chipping! Since I could give two figs about going to work with a broke down mani, I’ll be testing the formula with & without base coat this week and reporting the results on Saturday.

Zoya Nail Polish Lolly Matte Velvet Lolly Lacquer Discontinued

The film properties of matte formulas are not consistent with the properties of regular polish therefore when one gets applied over the other there is a different rate of drying which causes distortions in the surface tensions of both films, best seen as ridges and valleys that will form on the polish surface (as well infinitely endless drying time). If a basecoat is still desired you must wait for base to dry completely for matte formulas to be applied on top. This may help extend wear however the surface must be completely dry and residue free prior to applying matte formula.I was searching for an attractive matte nail polish (which would be AT LEAST 3 free) until I found this gorgeous Zoya Savita Matte Velvet Nail Lacquer totally by accident. I instantly fell in love with it! For those who haven’t heard about Zoya –it’s vegan, 5-free, and cruelty-free nail polish brand with products free of toxins, like toluene, formaldehyde DBP, dibutyl phthalate, and camphor.

Zoya Savita Matte Velvet is amethyst purple matte shimmer nail polish. Its consistency is not too thick and not too runny (somewhere in the middle), which helps with a smooth and easy application. Zoya recommends giving 10 minutes for a formula to dry into matt, but in reality, it takes only a few minutes or so. I would say that 2 coats are required with this polish because it just looks too messy after 1 coat.

I’ve tried a few other non-matte Zoya Nail Lacquers before and was very pleased with how long they’ve lasted, but Savita seems to be another story. Sad to say, but it was almost impossible to keep it on my nails for longer than a day (it starts to chip on the same day if you have any contact with water). The problem is that you can’t even use any ordinary bottom or top coat, except the one created specifically for matte polishes, because it would turn matte finish to glossy.

So overall, the shade is stunning, and it’s perfect for a party or any other short event, but if you want longevity, this is not a nail polish for you.

Oh my goodness, I have a right scorcher of a swatch for you today. This beauty is OPI Gelcolor Deutsch You Want Me Baby? Deutsch You Want Me Baby? is from OPI's Germany Collection released in winter 2012. I’m not going to lie, this is right up there in my top 10 of gel polish colours. I absolutely love this colour. I just can’t stop looking at my nails!

It is stunning and is the first soak off gel colour that I have worn more than once! I love this colour so much I and I also have it in regular polish which I purchased for a steal at Sallys for just under £6!

Deutsch You Want Me Baby? is a deep rusty orange base with strong red undertones and firey orange micro shimmer which totally sets it alight. The combination of the base colour and the heavy glitter make this another tricky trickster to photograph because one minute it looks dark almost red and the next it is lighter glowing orange wonderful fabulousness.

Ida Nails It: Opi Deutsche You Want Me Baby

Now I want to get it out there in the open that I am not usually an orange nail polish wearing kinda gal. In the past, the most orange I would get would be coral and even then I tended to opt for the more pink toned corals. Well this colour totally changed how I feel about wearing orange as it is super classy and so incredibly sexy! The only thing that makes this particular outing better than the last two is that I think it looks even better with my new nail shape.

The regular polish version of this polish has a beautiful metallic finish with more gold toned shimmer. I have never seen a soak off gel polish with a metallic finish so I believe this is why the Gelcolor version is super shimmery.

I have provided some side by side comparison shots of the Gelcolor and lacquer formula of Deutsch You Want Me Bab? so you can see the similarities as well as the difference in finish. In low light conditions both formulas look amazing but the RNP version is truly stop you in your tracks stunning!

Opi Deutsch You Want Me Baby?

I love both and definitely pleased to have them in my stash. To me the finish of the regular polish is more complex and more stunning, it has a 'lit from within' look to it which looks like the glowing embers of a fire.

Index finger and ring finger have the regular polish formula on them. The middle finger and pinky have Gelcolor formula of DYWMB?

The pictures for comparison between Gelcolor and RNP were taken during the daytime so there is more light being thrown onto the nails which makes the colour lighter.

You can see from these photos that the shimmer of the regular polish version looks more golden and more reflective than the Gelcolor version.

The formula of Gelcolor DYWMB is a toughie. Whilst it is very pigmented and shimmery which assists in great coverage easily being achieved, it is unfortunately a bit of a shrinker. Luckily, it is not a crazy shrinker but it is one that slowly creeps away from the cuticle, sidewall and free edge. It is a slow shrinker so this can be easily rectified by going over the all the nails with the brush before immediately curing. It is more of a problem on the first coat which it is important when it comes to capping the edges and getting a neat finish along the cuticle and side walls. Thankfully, by the second and third coats it’s not so much of a problem and therefore doesn’t affect the neatness of the mani. Besides, to me a quick brush over or flash curing is more than worth it for a colour like this!This is a deep firey orange polish that just glows on the nail. Nail biting, also known as onychophagy or onychophagia, is an oral compulsive habit of biting one's fingernails. It is sometimes described as a parafunctional activity, the common use of the mouth for an activity other than speaking, eating, or drinking.

Nail biting is very common, especially amongst childr. 25–30 perct of childr bite nails. More pathological forms of nails biting are considered an impulse control disorder in the DSM-IV-R and are classified under obsessive-compulsive and related disorders in the DSM-5. The ICD-10 classifies the practice as "other specified behavioral and emotional disorders with onset usually occurring in childhood and adolescce".

Nail biting usually leads to harmful effects to the fingers, like infections. These consequces are directly derived from the physical damage of biting or from the hands becoming an infection vector. Moreover, it can also have a social impact, for example social withdrawal and avoiding handshakes.
